Below are the minutes from the December 11th meeting. Mark your calendars- the next meeting will be January 15th at the OCA Building. It will start at 10:30 a.m. We do have a 2nd date in case of inclement weather and that is January 29th. More details will be sent out after Christmas.
Please note that we have tabled voting on the Memorial Day Classic location until the next meeting.
During our sales talk study session yesterday, Jody Carney offered to compile a sheet of different scenarios that you have encountered in the competition. Once she gets a list together, it will be mailed out to the group for you to practice with. You can send those different scenarios to Jody at jcarney@ofbf.org.

Introductions of everyone.

Rachel read through the minutes from the October meeting. Morgan moved to accept the minutes, Abby Ames second the motion. Motion passed.

Pregnancy raffle

Pam’s heifer calf from the raffle will be the donation heifer at the Expo sale.
Send a thank you to Roger Scheiderer for allowing us to have the heifer.

Gator Raffle Update

The company we were dealing with went through a buy-out, so we will be paying for the gator ahead of time and will store it for us. $2940.00 has been made so far on the gator. Kyle moved to bring the gator to the Beef Expo, and buy out spots in the sale barn with us, Morgan Second the motion. Motion passed.

Award deadlines:

Due to Pam by December 31st. Bronze and County Fair awards.

2012 Memorial day Classic:

Tabled till the next group meeting and will be voted on at that time.

2012 Nationals :

Tentative schedule is ready, starting July 7 with tweeks needed. We would like everyone to be there at 3pm Friday. Ohio cattle will be checked in, then check in will continue by state. We need runners to tell each state when to head to check in. Tim to checking to see if health papers will be needed for the Ohio cattle, since they will be around cattle from outside the state. Hotels are all contracted with; Karen has a block for Ohio members at the host hotel (Howard Johnson). Some of the events will be held at the hotel. There is A/C in the testing area. We will be served our lunches from a pavilion. It will be more strict this year than before during the competitions!

Other Business: 

Meeting dates: January 15 next meeting (subject to change) at the cattlemen’s at 10:30. Or the 29th? Public speaking seminar?

The Ohio Junior Simmental Association will be holding a meeting on October 15th, 2011. The meeting will start at 10 a.m. followed by a judging contest. The members will be discussing the upcoming nationals and fundraising events, as well as the 2012 Memorial Day Classic location. During the meeting, we will be working on judging and the proper way to give oral reasons during a judging contest.

The schedule for the meeting is as follows:
10 a.m.: OJSA Meeting
11 a.m.: Judging Contest
2 p.m.: Viewing of sale cattle
5 p.m.: Game Day sale

Breakfast and lunch will be available for those attending the meeting and contest.
A letter will be sent out within the week with directions and the itinerary for the meeting.

The juniors did very well at both of the AJSA events this summer and the results will be posted on here just as soon as we get them.

Now we are getting down to the business of the planning of the 2012 Junior National event to be held right here in Lima, OH.  A couple of the things that the juniors are currently working on to raise money are the two raffles.  The first raffle is the Pregnancy Raffle which includes 5 pregnant recip cows carry very top end genetics from some of the top herds in the state, they are sell just 600 tickets at $100 each and the winner gets all 5 pregnancies, this drawing will take place at the NAILE at the end of the sale.   Secondly the juniors are selling $20 tickets for the chance to win a brand new JOHN DEERE HPX Gator and this drawing will be held at the banquet at the 2012 Nationals.   View the flyer below with more information on both raffles and if you would like to get your tickets now before they’re gone please contact any OJSA member or Contact Pam Haley at 419-853-4657 or phaley@haley-farms.com

I would like to take a minute and say a great big Thank You to the Linder Family for hosting us and all the parents that helped out and all the young people that worked so hard.

We had a lot of new participants and I think after visiting with them they had a great time and really did very well in all of our contests.
